39 York St./Hayward Assessments, 1821–1830
-
Description
-
1821–30 assessments: The B.S. Hayward estate value went from 1400 pounds in 1821 to 1000 pounds in 1830. The family owned a stable on “Miss Wright’s Lot,” but it was disposed of after 1821 (likely as the cemetery got underway). Much property and many slaves were sold after 1826; Mrs. Hayward had to support the family after Benjamin’s death. The family still had at least two slaves in 1830.
